So, What Is KIM CHI Anyway??

Remember to keep your eye on the upper shelves of our Produce area for specialty items. Whether it's fresh raspberries, pico de gallo, guacamole or fresh peeled and chopped garlic, there's always bound to be something to help you take meals or snacks somewhere new!

Right now we also have Asian items like Kim Chi, fresh Yakisoba stir fry noodles and Tofu.

Many people have heard about Kim Chi but still aren't quite sure about it.

If you like spicy foods and pickled stuff like sauerkraut and pepperoncini, chances are you'll like Kim Chi. Fermented like traditional kraut and pickles, Kim Chi is the Korean version of pickled cabbage with radish, peppers and other seasonings. We say "traditional" because most sauerkraut and pickles nowadays in the US are no longer fermented, but brined. This is unfortunate, but could be changing since traditional fermented vegetables are loaded with pro-biotics which improve digestion, immunity and even mood! And there is growing attention on traditional methods for better health and nutrition.

That's right, yogurt isn't the only source of pro-biotics!

Koreans eat Kim Chi with every meal as a side or a condiment, which is how to approach it. I love Kim Chi on hot dogs! I still love the more traditional mustard, ketchup & relish dog. But just as I sometimes change it up with sauerkraut instead or even chili & cheese, I've added Kim Chi to my valid hot dog topping options.

Now aren't you glad to know more about Kim Chi?
